Learning Circle Leaders in Spotlight

As part of the Asia Pacific Youth Exchange Fellowship Program, APYE graduates were able to participate as the Learning Circle Leader (LCL) in the recently concluded 4th Asia Pacific Youth Exchange in Manila, Philippines. Graduates who took up the challenge on being an LCL were able to attend a three weekend training to learn basic facilitation skills, to deep dive on Sustainable Development Goals, to be knowledgeable about situational management and to familiarize with the Leadership Development Training Modules.

A total of twelve (12) APYE Graduates were trained as LCL and were assigned to four (4) Local Immersion sites namely, Padre Burgos in the Province of Quezon, Binan, Santa Rosa and Cabuyao in the Province of Laguna.

Here are some of our APYE Graduates who did a tremendous job in being an LCL.

Troy Giuseppe Tolentino - SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

"My #APYExperience as a Learning Circle Leader was not only meaningful but also fulfilling because I was able to impart what I know about the SDG I am most passionate about and see my fellow youth start making an impact through the SDG's. The thing I enjoyed the most in being an LCL is being in the position to witness participants grow not just individually, but also as a group. Apart from exchange of ideas, the exchange of stories from different cultures make the experience worthwhile. Through this experience I learned to communicate ideas better and engage conversations to enable exchange of ideas."

Melisa Gonzales - SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities

"Having participated in APYE for the second time, now, as facilitator was a very insightful experience. I was able to meet new delegates who eventually became good friends. I am thankful to the organizing committee for giving us, the 3rd APYE Alumni, another chance of this historic milestone in APYE."

Daniel Jerico Dela Cruz - SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

"Being part of the 1st batch of the Learning Circle Leaders (LCL) is one of my most unforgettable experience because as LCL we are trained to become better of what we are before for us to give our best to lead others. Among my experiences this year's APYE as an LCL, meeting my group is the best part because I felt as an LCL that even though I'm younger than them I felt their respect, acceptance, and understanding my flaws sometimes, I know that I gave my best to them and I know they have it, we became something that we didnt expected and that is becoming Best friends that untill now even we are miles from each other we are still connected. I also learned that the missing pieces of our imperfection will not just be found easily sometimes we must THINK (I Think?) and hear everyone's opinion before we came up with a decision for the betterment of the group."

Oswald Sablay - SDG 14: Life Below Water

"Being an LCL is more than just a job, it actually offers experiences that can truly change a person's whole being. In my case, it gave me three things: First, the opportunity to grow as an individual and a leader given all the activities that we had. Second, the chance to see a vaster perspective of things with everybody's personal stories. Lastly, the honor to be part of the transformation of the delegates from being mere dreamers to actual doers. Indeed, being an LCL is good avenue for one to fully understand the very essence of the APYE Program."

Angela Aquino - SDG 15: Life on Land

"The challenge is getting them out of their shell and making them feel empowered enough to make a difference. Once you've achieved that, the ideas from each member of the team will pour out and at least one of those will be their project. Our main goal is not just to come up with a good project but to wake up the leader inside each of the delegates. APYE stretched my personality and leadership skills in a way that can never be replicated by any other Exchange Program. It has given me hope for a better future, the strength to move forward, friends to count on, and empowerment to make a difference."

Reego Solivio III - SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

"Being given the chance to work with people you look up to, the same people who organized the program you once enthusiastically and excitingly joined and closely seeing step by step the growth and progress of the delegates as they open their hearts, minds, and wills are both humbling and fulfilling. Definitely legendary. One for the books, as they say."
