Organized yearly since 1997, the Civitas Asia National Student Conference (CivAsia) has been empowering and connecting high school and university students from all over the Philippines to promote sustainable development in the country. With this year’s theme, ALPAS: Journeying towards Mother Nature’s Healing, a focus was given on the Planet category of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), specifically on SDGs 6, 12, 13, 14 and 15.
Being one of the prime movers of empowering the youth to drive SDGs into action in the country, APYExPHL, was invited to impart unto CivAsia’s delegates its advocacy towards sustainable development. The APYExPHL Fellowship Program team, represented by Ms. Jana Unčanin (Fellowship Program Manager), Ms. Dionela Bigcas (Fellowship Program Associate) and Mr. Jezreel John Punzalan (Project Implementation Officer), put up a booth during the event and shared APYExPHL not just to the delegates of CivAsia but also to the whole UA&P community. The booth was also visited by several of our Empowered Champion (previous APYExPHL graduates) that gladly shared their APYExperiences to the rest of the attendees of event.
Aside from this, Ms. Unčanin was also given a chance to represent APYExPHL as a panel moderator during the YouthChat segment of the event together with Miss Air Philippines 2018 Zahra Bianca Saldua, and renowned disaster prevention expert Dr. Ted Esguerra. In addition to this, Ms. Unčanin also served as a judge during the Action Plan presentations of the CivAsia delegates.
“It is amazing how these young minds are filled with innovative yet simple and doable ideas that could be a start of an amazing journey towards healing Mother Nature”, Ms. Unčanin shared to the rest of the APYExPHL team.

Conferences like CivAsia make us realize that contributing to sustainable development has no age limit. In fact, the best way to contribute to the cause is now. Seeing the young and energetic minds of the delegates instilled hope and further motivation to continue on the mission of empowering the youth to drive the SDGs into action.
